Found Help in Christian Science
The healing of my baby brought me into Christian Science. For two days he had been unable to keep anything on his stomach—even the water he constantly asked for could not be retained. All this time he was under the doctor's care, but was rapidly growing worse. At four o'clock in the afternoon of the second day my sister and I thought the crisis had come. He lay in my lap in a semi-conscious condition, but not sleeping, in fact he had hardly slept for forty-eight hours. Every few minutes his efforts to vomit would almost strangle him. He would then sink back into my lap weak and helpless.
I begged my sister to go for the doctor. In a few minutes she returned saying no one was there. Then in despair I turned to Christian Science and sent for a practitioner of whom I had heard. She came in like an angel of peace, assuring us there was nothing to fear.
When she asked me to give up medicine and trust God, I demanded furiously, "How do I know you represent God? if it were myself I would try, but I wont practise on my baby." Then she gently told me she could not take the case unless I were willing to do as she said. Just then the baby sat up and threw up what I thought was clotted blood. Since then I found it was the medicine I had been giving him. I burst out into a perfect wail, "Oh, I don't believe in God or anything." My sister turned and said, "How you can sit there and refuse to help—" but she was already treating us.
