The Lectures

Tuesday evening, July 24, Judge Joseph R. Clarkson of Omaha, delivered a lecture at the Pavilion in this city, under the auspices of the local society of Christian Scientists, to a fair-sized and appreciative audience embracing every shade of religious thought. The distinguished lecturer was introduced by Judge J. H. Richards, Mayor of Boise City, who came here, at the invitation of the committee for the purpose. The following is the substance of Judge Richards' remarks :—

My Friends:—It is a privilege to have a part with you on this occasion. The Christian Scientists of the capital of your state send greeting to those of the Gate City. They congratulate you that the opportunity for the material advancement of your city will soon expand. They rejoice with you that the opportunity for your spiritual unfolding has already expanded. The true American spirit is ever seeking to open the avenue to larger opportunities. Thus we move on, ever seeking, ever finding.

So far we have not discovered the limits of our possibilities. Hope, the advance agent of faith, ever impels us on. Faith, the forerunner of understanding, ever cries "Let there be light," and through the understanding light is ever breaking. "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." We judge of the value of an idea to-day by its usefulness to mankind.
