Saved from the Operating Table

Two years ago last February our daughter, aged eighteen, was brought home sick with abscess of the spine. For weeks we cared for her night and day, and when she was able to be up again she still suffered great pain, and had no appetite. The next winter we took her to a doctor, who treated her for five weeks, then gave me medicine and directions to complete a cure. We brought her home the second day of February, 1899, and the sixth day of February the abscess broke again. We kept on with the treatment, and in July took her to another doctor, who said she had let it go so long, she must have four or five operations before she would be any better. We decided to have no operation.

We knew nothing of Christian Science, but had heard of a lady who healed by faith, and as we thought "All things are possible with God," her father took her to see this lady, who proved to be a Christian Scientist. He left her there, came home, and told me not to worry, I could not give her better care than she was getting. She stayed six weeks, and came home for a visit, but as she did not get along very well, I took her back, and the twenty-third day of December, 1899, she came home healed.

The first change I saw was not in her physical condition, but I observed how much more patient she seemed, and such a look of peace and contentment as was on her face I had never seen before. Since she has been healed, I have been able, with the help of the dear healer, to overcome many ills. Every day and hour I praise and bless God that He, through Christian Science, has opened our eyes and understanding.—Mrs. Minor Cannaday, Reams, Wis.
