Heartfelt Gratitude

I have long wished to give expression to the deep gratitude of my heart for what Christian Science has done for me. It is now more than four years since I was healed of many diseases contained in the regular catalogue, one being hereditary consumption.

My mother and other members of her family had died of that disease, and every indication seemed to prove to my mind that my doom was sealed, and that I had but a few months at most to call my own. While in this dark hour of suffering and despair, this God-given message came to me and lifted me above the black illusion of disease and death into the glorious consciousness of the fact that "God is Love" and ever-present and always the same; and that He is not the author of our sickness or sorrow. From that hour to the present time I have been striving to learn more and more of this blessed Truth, to live it, to imbibe it, and to demonstrate its power in overcoming error in its many and varied forms both in myself and others. My husband had been almost an invalid for fifteen years, suffering from stomach and bowel troubles, and was healed about the same time I was, and has never had to lie down from a claim of sickness but one time since being healed, and that was for only two hours. He is sixty-seven years of age, is a farmer, and plows all day or does any work that comes to hand, and such a thing as medicine is never thought of. At times my battles have seemed very hard, and the words so often read in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy, have been brought to memory: "It is easier to desire Truth than to rid one's self of error."

I am very thankful for the establishment of the Board of Education under the auspices of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College, for thereby I have had an opportunity to receive class instruction from one of our pioneer workers, a loyal teacher who was among the number selected by the Board at its first session to teach Christian Science. For this privilege words are inadequate to express my gratitude, for the light and unfolding of understanding that now daily comes to me is the soul's rich harvest that banishes forever all doubts and fears and enables me to reflect more and more the true image and likeness. After class I laid aside my glasses after having used them constantly for many years, and am able to read, write, sew, and do any necessary work. My heart is full of love for our Leader, and it is only by trying to live by her God-inspired teaching that we are able to appreciate what she has done for suffering humanity. How can any one who has received the blessings that come from this revelation do otherwise than love her. I also want to express my appreciation and gratitude to all concerned in the publication of our Journal and Sentinel, and also the Quarterly, all of which are of great help.
