A Case of Instantaneous Healing

One day while visiting with a sister at her home in Chicago a man came to the door. He had called two days previous and asked for material aid. My sister seeing that he was paralyzed and needed something more, explained to him in a few words the nature of Christian Science and directed him to the reading rooms to obtain help. He went there but becoming weak in faith he failed to ask the Scientist in charge for treatment, but asked her instead for food, which she gave him. When he appeared again on the morning of which I speak he related his experience and added, "I can't be healed, my trouble is hereditary, my father had it, and my uncle had it, and I have been afflicted seven years," etc. We both denied the error as he voiced it. A few more words of love and encouragement were given, when we were overwhelmed at a great change coming over him. At first he could not speak, but pointing to the paralyzed hand he finally exclaimed, "Oh, dear! Oh, dear! Look! Look! Look! It moves! It opens!" and his hand became red; the rigid muscles relaxed, he could move first his thumb, then his fingers, and finally raise the hitherto helpless arm! The tears rolled down his cheeks. His joy and gratitude can never be expressed by words. We stood in awe in the presence of Omnipotence.
