Eye on the world: Prayer about fear of contagion (updated)

As news reports continue to highlight what is being done in the United States and around the world to contain and deal with the Ebola virus, we can turn to some relevant, helpful passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy to direct our thinking and prayers on this subject:

“Disease arises, like other mental conditions, from association. Since it is a law of mortal mind that certain diseases should be regarded as contagious, this law obtains credit through association,—calling up the fear that creates the image of disease and its consequent manifestation in the body” (p. 154).

“Let us reassure ourselves with the law of Love. God never punishes man for doing right, for honest labor, or for deeds of kindness, though they expose him to fatigue, cold, heat, contagion. If man seems to incur the penalty through matter, this is but a belief of mortal mind, not an enactment of wisdom, and man has only to enter his protest against this belief in order to annul it” (p. 384).
