Eye on the world: Next steps for Afghanistan
Afghanistan’s presidential election has been decided and the country is ready to move forward. As The Christian Science Monitor notes in a commentary: “If the two leaders can govern together, they will help create a stronger national identity, one that may close the door on ethnic-based corruption. More transparent and accountable government in Afghanistan will strengthen the Afghan military and leave less room for the Taliban to expand its influence.”
Here are thoughts from writers who have prayed about related issues and some of the spiritual concepts that inspired them.
In “Prayer to counter corruption,” the author writes, “A more solid basis for supporting the practical realization of morality is starting with the understanding of each individual's identity as truly spiritual, the incorruptible reflection of incorruptible divine Spirit, God.”
“Throw off the chains of corruption” addresses beliefs that seem to support corruption, among them, lack: “In Love’s divine economy, supply and demand are perfectly balanced, without deficit or excess. Divine wisdom is in control in this economy, ensuring that abilities and opportunities are synchronized. And all can expect just and full compensation under the impartial laws of divine Love.”
“God is in charge at all times, under all circumstances. When difficult situations arise, we can turn to Him for guidance, deliverance, peace of mind,” writes the author of “Brotherly love in action.” The writer continues, “We can rise above conflict and prove that only good is unfolding, only blessings are possible, because God is governing both us and our brother man.”
