Bringing the Golden Rule to the workplace

Live audio chat with Sarah Hyatt, C.S.B.

Sarah notes that there are many websites and books on business that cover a broad spectrum of opinions about the Golden Rule—from the view that it's the only way to do business to the feeling that it would be naive to rely on this rule for decision-making. Sarah says the Golden Rule is actually a spiritual law that bestows blessings when we obey it. The challenge is to understand how to apply it to our daily lives.

Through responding to the questions sent in by site visitors, she offers ideas about how to put the Golden Rule to work at work. Among the questions: how to deal with supervisors who take credit for an employee's ideas, unjust layoffs, workplace politics, greed and unethical practices. One supervisor asks about how to give honest feedback in a more loving manner, another asks how to help an employee overcome the feeling that his job is "beneath him."
