My father became interested in Christian Science when I was very young, and his interest became the introduction to this way of life for our whole family. I have depended upon the truths of this Science exclusively in working out solutions for any and every sort of difficulty I have faced. But here I wish to tell about the first one I remember.
When I was about five or six, I fell while skiing and suffered what appeared to be a broken leg. I recall lying in the snow and becoming very angry with a ski patrolman who was not helping me in the manner I felt he should. (I learned later that he was assisting me in the way he'd been trained.)
My father, who was very new in his study of Christian Science, decided to employ prayer in Christian Science instead of the medical treatment he'd always used. This was a significant commitment for him. He could see that my leg was unable to bear any weight and that it was bent at a very strange angle. I knew he loved me very much and that it must have disturbed him greatly to see his little boy in such discomfort. But what he'd learned in his brief study of Christian Science moved him to rely completely on God for healing.
