My mother was introduced to Christian Science as a teenager, when my grandmother was healed through Science after doctors said they could do no more for her. Because of their gratitude for this healing, my grandparents began attending Christian Science church services, and their children were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School. Later, my grandparents became church members. Mother began in earnest to study the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and to practice what she was learning. She eventually became a Christian Science practitioner.
As my two brothers and I were growing up, prayer to God was relied on to meet our daily needs. Few of the so-called children's diseases were experienced in our family, and those that did appear were quickly healed.
Two or three years ago, one morning I noticed a small growth on my body. I knew that I must pray about this at once. I realized that God is an infinitely good God and could not create evil of any kind. I recalled what John said in the Bible—that "God is love" and "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear." I knew that God's love is constant and impartial. This truth had helped me many times before, and it helped me a great deal in this instance.
