Before I had heard of Christian Science, when our daughter...
Before I had heard of Christian Science, when our daughter was two years old, a doctor told me she had only a few years to live because of a severe heart condition. I felt devastated and was unable to overcome the fear. I was terrified by the symptoms.
The day after a friend offered me Christian Science, I found Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy on my neighbor's bookshelf, accepted it, and started reading it daily. I also visited a Christian Science Reading Room to ask questions, and I went to my first branch church service. As I began to learn about God and man as His spiritual reflection, our family immediately began having healings, including physical ones as well as career-related resolutions for my husband. Crippling arthritis in my hands had rapidly worsened to the point that I was unable to use them for dressing our children. I undertook daily study of the Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly) with the thought of healing our daughter, and this painful condition disappeared quickly.
The healing of the heart condition took place over a longer period. However, the symptoms began to lessen right away. Some years later our daughter had to have a physical examination in order to attend a Girl Scout camp. The doctor reported, "You have a very healthy daughter."
