Quick recovery from head injury
My upbringing in the Christian Science Sunday School prepared me for many challenges in my life. Hearing the Bible stories and learning about Christian Science from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy underpinned my daily activities and assured me of my spiritual selfhood as the protected and perfect creation of our Father-Mother God.
I was happy, curious, and understood myself to be the loved idea of divine Mind, which is a synonym for God. As a youngster, I read the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons with my grandmother who was a Christian Science practitioner. She helped me to learn and pronounce the difficult words I read out loud with her.
I learned many prayers. A couple of my favorites were written by Mrs. Eddy: “Mother’s New Year Gift to the Little Children” (Poems, p. 69) and the “Daily Prayer” (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 41). We all said these on the car ride to school. They prepared me for the events of each day, and I knew I could always turn to God.
