Our authority to go forward
If you’ve ever found yourself fearing the return of something you thought you had left behind, there’s good news in the Scriptures. We can refute that fear as an imposition on us, an uninvited thought that doesn’t belong in our thinking.
There’s a Bible verse that conveys the basis for such refutation in very assertive language. The prophet Nahum tells us that God puts “an utter end” to whatever would oppose God and assures us that “affliction shall not rise up the second time” (Nahum 1:9). This promise can inspire us to rebuke any fear—or even the appearance—of going backward instead of forward.
For instance, have you experienced the healing of a physical or mental health problem, but find yourself fearing its return? Have you freed yourself from a bad relationship, yet are apprehensive about embarking on new relationships?
