Open arms of thought

Our prayers
      are not fragile fingers
            reaching out
to turn on God’s tap of blessing
      and fill our
       daily cup
from what we think might be
      our Father’s faucet
      of measured good.

God’s love is not measured,
not a spigot for miserly drops
      and sprinkled sprays,
      open if we pray,
            closed if not.

Love—infinite and All—
      gives its blessings
in waterfalls
      of peace, joy, and harmony,
in flowing rivers of serenity
      found
      in wilderness moments,
      on the mountaintops
            of Truth’s clarity.

Our prayers
      are open arms of thought
      simply accepting God’s ever-good
            infinity—
our steady grasp
      on a cup that overflows
      with Life’s gift of harmony.
