A trip of many firsts
Originally published in Portuguese
On my first trip to Europe, I was visiting universities and cities where I thought it would be interesting to study and live. My mom and I were really enjoying traveling and had incredible experiences in each city.
One day, we spent hours traveling by train, carrying heavy suitcases and backpacks everywhere. The next day, I woke up with severe back pain. I couldn’t get up and, even when I tried just sitting, it hurt even more. I did some exercises to see if the pain would stop, but they didn’t help. So I went back to bed, and my mom, who is a Christian Scientist and had been praying right from the start, asked if we could read that week’s Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly together so I could feel more of God’s presence and power.
I have always had great faith in God; many relatives on my mom’s side of the family are Christian Scientists, and I have attended the Christian Science Sunday School since I was a child. But, at eighteen, I had still never experienced a physical healing.
