Injured ankle healed

During a dance fitness class in the autumn of 2024, I lost my balance and went over hard on my ankle. A surging mix of fear, pain, and dizziness took over my thought, and I sat out the rest of the class. The ankle couldn’t bear weight, and I couldn’t walk in a normal way, so I was grateful to those around me for helping me to the car, and to my family for making a special journey to bring me home.

Once I was home and calmer, I began to pray. I read from an account of Mary Baker Eddy’s full recovery from a serious fall on an icy sidewalk, to see how she had prayed about it—prayer that resulted in healing, which was pivotal to her discovery of Christian Science. Her book Retrospection and Introspection includes a brief account of the accident, followed by a description of her subsequent three-year spiritual journey as she studied the Bible to understand how she had been healed. I found particular comfort in this passage: “I had learned that thought must be spiritualized, in order to apprehend Spirit. It must become honest, unselfish, and pure, in order to have the least understanding of God in divine Science” (p. 28).

I wanted to handle the situation by apprehending Spirit in this way, so I contacted a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. After talking with him, I felt assured that nothing could restrict good. In the first chapter of the book of Genesis, the Bible speaks of God’s creation and of man made in God’s image and likeness. I understood that I was perfect at that very moment, and that this meant that I could see myself only the way God sees me: as His creation—perfect, balanced, whole, and unrestricted.
