Shepherds and sheep
Each week, “Loving the Scriptures” will offer a brief insight into a Bible topic, idea, or character with a dash of deeper insight into the spiritual meaning of what is shared. We hope these weekly offerings will connect with, encourage, and grow your love for the Bible.
In ancient times, shepherds occupied one of the lowest spots on the cultural spectrum. Yet these humble workers expressed vital pastoral qualities in protecting sheep from harm, keeping them from wandering or falling behind, and carrying those needing support. Respected Hebrew leaders Moses and David were shepherds—and throughout Scripture, God is depicted as Shepherd of His flock (see, for instance, Isaiah 40:10, 11).
