Flu healed through an awakening prayer
A few years back, I spent several weeks away from my workaday world to appreciate quiet time as a rest and study guest at a Christian Science nursing facility. I immersed myself in gaining a better understanding of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s writings, and I read many articles from the Sentinel and The Christian Science Journal. It was a sacred time of spiritual discovery, and I felt closer to God than I ever had before.
At one point during this experience, I came down with symptoms of the flu. Although the suggestion persisted that I only needed to sleep more and things would readjust, I finally roused myself mentally to focus all my attention on seeking healing through prayer instead of sleep.
As often happens when I’m praying about a challenge, an answer came in the form of a question. Though in this case, two questions popped into thought. The first was, “What’s the payoff for sin?” I took that to mean, “What benefit do people think they’ll receive if they give in to a particular sin?” The follow-up question was, “What’s the payoff for sickness?”
