‘A God of love only’
When I was a child, the thought came to me that “God is a God of love only” and not a God of both love and hate, which was taught by my father’s religion—something I could not accept.
This new view of God came during a time when my mother was beginning to study Christian Science. She had been searching for answers to life’s most important questions ever since she was a young girl, and she finally found Christian Science. It wasn’t long before my mother left my father’s religion and joined the local Church of Christ, Scientist.
My mother didn’t take us from my father’s church because he had been told our continued attendance was necessary for his salvation. Although I missed her presence on Sunday mornings, I felt that she was doing something she had to do. I could see how God’s love now permeated my mother’s being, radiated out from her, and touched everyone around her.
