Warts disappear
It was my first year out of high school, and I was feeling so free. Free from the strictures of studying things I wasn’t interested in, free to work a job and earn money, and best of all, free to practice the drums all day as I sought to gain entry into a music school I’d been hoping to attend since I was 16.
However, early on that year I developed warts on both the back and palm of my right hand, with the ones on top of the hand being particularly big. At first I wasn’t concerned, but the more visible warts got bigger, and I soon began to feel self-conscious about them.
As the year progressed and they still hadn’t gone, I became increasingly uneasy because when I drummed, the bandage I used as a covering would come loose, and the growths on my palms were aggravated by the use of the drumstick. I was also concerned because I had an audition in a few months in which my potential teachers would be looking directly at my hands.
