Harmony and dignity prevail
Originally written in Spanish, this testimony was first published in the July 2013 Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese editions of The Herald of Christian Science.
After I married and my children were born, a number of challenges emerged. I endured abuse from my husband, who at that time had a problem with alcoholism. I felt that my rights as a woman and as a person were not recognized. I didn’t feel loved or respected.
I had been studying Christian Science for a few years and had learned that these troubling situations can be resolved. God created man and woman in His image and likeness, and His creation is very good, as we read in Genesis (see 1:26, 27, 31). I was always declaring this truth, but the situation wasn’t improving. In fact, it was getting worse.
There were complications during the birth of our first child, and later she had some difficulties. For instance, in kindergarten, teachers determined she had learning problems and wasn’t socializing with the other children. It was obvious to me that the lack of harmony at home was affecting her.
