Abscess healed
I want to share a healing that was complete in the fall of 2012.
A few months earlier, a very large abscess appeared that made it painful for me to sit. The evidence was alarming. I’m grateful I was able to take private time to address the issue through prayer.
I had the help of two Christian Science practitioners, at different times, as I prayed about this condition. One practitioner spoke to me about the light of divine Love, and assured me that there was no room for dark fears or mental suggestions that would attempt to crowd divine Love out. As I prayed, I thanked my Father-Mother God for making me perfect, for making me know that perfection, and for making me feel that perfection.
Eventually, the abscess began to drain. This was a challenging time as I had to constantly keep a dressing on the area. My wife helped me with this several times a day. I was playing the organ and piano for church, and also serving as First Reader. I had to relinquish these duties for several weeks. However, I was able to maintain a teaching schedule of a few music students on certain days.
During this time, I truly learned that there is only one cause and effect. God is All and matter is insubstantial. I learned to cast out fearful thinking. I also learned the true strength and faith of my beloved wife who stood with me throughout the healing process. With sustained faith and patience, every need was met. I was finally able to prove the truth of these ideas that were shared with me during treatment. Since the physical condition looked messy and “impure,” it also helped me when the practitioner shared that the purity of divine Soul is expressed in every aspect of my being. And that I had never been less than the absolutely pure expression of Soul. A few months after the abscess had appeared, it was gone and didn’t return.
There are no words that can fully express my gratitude for this healing. During the trying times I recited Mary Baker Eddy’s poems that are set to music in the Christian Science Hymnal, the Lord’s Prayer, “the scientific statement of being” from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy (p. 468 ), and the 23rd Psalm from the Bible.
I am grateful for the life and works of Christ Jesus as well as Mary Baker Eddy’s selflessness in establishing her Church based on an understanding of spiritual healing. I’m grateful for a clearer understanding that “man is not material; he is spiritual” (Science and Health, p. 468 ). Thanks be to God for Christian Science, “the greatest and holiest of all causes” (Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 177 ).
