Spinal meningitis healed
One day when I was 15 years old, I got a headache that grew progressively worse. My dad, who was not a Christian Scientist, called a physician, who told him to have me take two aspirins and call him in the morning. As I was in so much pain, I asked my mom to call a Christian Science practitioner. The last thing I remember before losing consciousness was asking her, “Did you call a practitioner?” and hearing her say, “Yes.”
Shortly after that, I went into a coma and was rushed to a hospital, where I was diagnosed as having a severe case of spinal meningitis. The doctors did not expect me to live. However, my mom continued working with the practitioner, until one day I woke up with all faculties and functions normal. This seemed to make quite a stir among the doctors. Several came to see me, and I remember one asking, “How did you do that?” On finding out that I was a Christian Scientist, they acknowledged that a healing had indeed taken place.
When the practitioner giving metaphysical treatment was notified of my healing, he wrote to my mother, “I’m sure you are more clearly aware of God’s infinite goodness than ever before. . . . If ‘All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all’ (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468), then evil is both powerless and without presence; it is simply false belief, misconception. It doesn’t belong to man because it doesn’t come from God; therefore it is never any part of man’s identity. You may say of all evil suggestions, even as Jesus did, ‘Depart from me.’ ”
