'Things into thoughts'
I wanted a piano! So I decided to pray about it every day. Almost a year went by and no piano.
One day, I came across Mary Baker Eddy’s explanation of what metaphysics is in Science and Health: “Metaphysics is above physics, and matter does not enter into metaphysical premises or conclusions. . . . Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul” (p. 269).
When I read that, I thought: “Why Ruth, you haven’t really prayed. You have just wanted a piano!” Now I determined to pray more metaphysically. I asked myself what I would have if I could resolve a physical piece of furniture, a piano, into thought. What a challenge! A piano lends beauty and comfort to the home. Music highlights harmony, peace, calm, and brings really great joy.
