Hip and leg pain healed

After each Sunday service, my branch church holds a “gathering” in which members and others discuss Bible stories and spiritual ideas through presentations and music. Recently, a young man gave a talk about the walk to Emmaus described in the New Testament. Luke 24:13–48 tells of how two disciples met Jesus after his resurrection on the road from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus. They did not recognize him, but as they walked together, Jesus related to them all the prophecies about himself from the Old Testament. When they reached their destination, they invited Jesus in and broke bread, and their eyes were opened to see who he really was.

At the time this presentation was going on, I was in such pain that I could hardly sit, stand, or walk. My hips and legs had been bothering me for several days. I’d prayed about the issue, but I hadn’t really found peace, and the pain persisted.

Sitting in church that morning, though, listening to the presentation, I thought back to a reenactment of the walk to Emmaus that I’d participated in several years before. The branch church I belonged to at the time had put on the reenactment, complete with period costumes and the breaking of bread. During this reenactment I had seen for the first time what was really taking place.
