Cherry blossom time
Photomotion is a term I’ve given to photographs that were achieved by moving my camera quickly, so that the image is not in focus, but in motion. This one was taken when my husband and I visited the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.
To me, this image captures the fanciful loveliness of the blossoms in the tidal basin and echoes a line from the Christian Science Hymnal, “the loveliness of Love is all around” (Violet Hay, No. 64).
Not only were the blossoms breathtakingly beautiful, but what struck me as we strolled around, tripod in hand, was the multitude of other photographers—amateur and professional—respecting each other’s space as they strove to capture the perfect image. I felt, tangibly, the friendship this arbor gift represented.
