In this occasional series, individuals share how taking Christian Science Primary class instruction has strengthened their spiritual understanding, and brought increasing inspiration and healing to their lives.
Class instruction: a life changer
Eight years ago, I had left a very difficult teaching position and was unable to find employment. My husband, who was not a Christian Scientist at the time, had some major health issues. Besides that, the company he worked for had gone out of business, and he was just starting his own company.
I really felt overwhelmed, so I asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. After I poured out my tale of woe, she asked if I’d had Primary class instruction, a two-week course of instruction in Christian Science healing. I explained I had been accepted years ago, but at the last minute had not attended because I’d had to make a cross-country move.
She suggested that I should again consider taking class. I didn’t have a clue about how to search for a teacher. In my earlier experience, I had chosen someone who lived in a city where I had family with whom I could stay. To get me started, the practitioner gave me a teacher’s name and phone number. I talked with the teacher on the phone, prayed a lot, applied, and was accepted.
