'Demons' and witchcraft have no power
This article was originally published in the April 2012 French edition of The Herald of Christian Science, Le Héraut de la Science Chrétienne.
In the Gospel according to Luke, it is said that Christ Jesus freed a man who, for many years, was possessed by “demons” that had seized him. This man had his dwelling among the tombs. So great was his strength that even the iron chains with which he had been bound could not restrain him. But Jesus healed the man and asked him to go home (see Luke 8:26–39, New King James Version).
Based on what Christian Science teaches us, this story shows that divine Spirit is the only truth, always present and always active, while its opposite, matter, has in reality no presence, no power, and no action.
Nowadays, many are those who seem imprisoned by physical and mental chains. I often hear friends say, “My problems are tying me down!” Nevertheless, it is possible for us to expose and overcome problems of all kinds that even today still seem to hold us hostage.
