A healing light in my life
I discovered Christian Science in 1999, at a time when my late husband was sick. A young man was brought to our home, and he offered to pray for my husband for healing without the use of drugs. My husband was embarrassed and did not accept his offer, but I was curious and asked the young man how this healing was possible. After explaining Christian Science to me, he offered me a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. I started immediately reading the book, thinking I could read it as a novel and finish it within a short time. However, the young man recommended that I study it word by word and ponder the lines that attracted me, then apply them when dealing with a difficult situation.
When I was reading the book for the second time, I suddenly understood that God was Love itself. And from that moment, I started receiving healings. One of them was of filariasis, a disease that had disturbed me for years. I could not place my feet on the floor without great discomfort, and the illness used to cause itching in my eyes, buttocks, arms, and fingers. But as I read Science and Health, I started realizing myself as the perfect expression of God—free from filariasis. By the end of that year I was totally free from that illness.
As I witnessed the effectiveness of the book, I asked my husband if I could pray for him, as well. He accepted, but when his family became aware of it, they discouraged him by equating Christian Science with witchcraft. They brought him to a traditional doctor of our village, and four months later to the central hospital of Yaounde, the capital city of Cameroon. The situation was embarrassing and very surprising to me, as I was told I had no right to see him. Finally, my husband called for me to stay with him—against the wishes of the family. We were reunited for a brief time, but soon, sadly, he passed on.
