From disability to ability
A journey of persistent prayer and learning to read.
First appeared as a web original on June 20, 2011
The story of Moses crossing the Red Sea has always resonated with me. When the children of Israel were slaves in Egypt, God told Moses he had to lead them out of bondage and into the Promised Land. The Bible tells us that Moses “said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Ex. 3:11). But Moses had faith in God’s love and knew God would lead him to succeed in his mission.
Like Moses, I’ve had to learn to trust God, and to pray and listen to get to the other side of some challenging issues.
When I entered the first grade and started learning to read, it was very difficult and I was in the lowest level in my class. When I graduated from high school, I was nearly illiterate, with only a fourth-grade reading level.
