No dark past, just God’s now
You may have heard the saying that what we bring to a situation is what we receive. In other words, our thoughts directly affect our experience. For instance, the joy we express can lift an otherwise dreary situation, or if we are harboring anger or fear, this mind-set directly impacts events in our lives.
The good news is we aren’t helpless victims of thoughts that seem out of our control. Christian Science teaches that these fearful and depressing thoughts are really what the Bible terms “the carnal mind” or thoughts rooted in a false, material premise for existence, and they can be changed by countering them with God’s truth and refusing to accept them as originating with ourselves. They are really only lies looking for identity in us.
We may find that the closer we come to understanding God, divine Truth, the louder these lies—or error—about our identity would scream into our ears that we are not worthy, have no power, or can willfully go about our business in a less than principled way.
