Choose the reality of omnipotent God

For the lesson titled "Reality" from March 21–27, 2011

The Golden Text of this week’s Bible Lesson, titled “Reality,” encourages us to “consider the work of God” (Eccl. 7:13). As we go through each day, how can we choose what to accept as God’s reality and what to reject?

The Responsive Reading and Section I firmly establish that God made all things, and though there are other things that appear to be gods, “there is none other God but one” (I Cor. 8:4, citation 1). Starting from the premise that God makes all things, reality must be constituted of only what God has made and must be harmonious.

The second section illustrates the point that “reality is in perfect harmony with God, divine Principle” (Science and Health, p. 130, Sect. I, cit. 4) with a story from II Kings (4:38–41) about the prophet Elisha and a pot of food. Elisha must have seen that his students needed to be fed—not just spiritually but physically. In a rejection of the “reality” of famine, he ordered a stew be prepared. Although the ingredients used made it inedible, Elisha’s actions again rejected the verdict that there could be anything inharmonious in their experience, giving evidence that God made all things good. Elisha made the stew (and his message) completely digestible for his students.
