A healing light

One rainy day, the sun broke through the clouds and streamed down on top of a nearby hilltop neighborhood. I was awed by the beauty of the light, as it glittered off the windows, walls, and roofs of the homes, and arched the sky with a brilliant rainbow. It occurred to me how effortlessly the light was reflected. That neighborhood was simply set on the top of a hill. It couldn’t avoid reflecting light, and it couldn’t hide if it wanted to.

Jesus’ statement “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” (Matt. 5:14) came to mind. I had often pondered that spiritual truth and prayed to be a clear transparency for the light of God. It was plain to me that being in the presence of God, we cannot avoid reflecting His light, love, intelligence, and power.

Continued study of the concept of light in the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s writings brought much inspiration about being God’s reflection, letting Love, Life, and Spirit shine forth in everything I do. I gained a clearer understanding of the fact that since God is the real light of the universe and fills all space, there is no place for darkness, error, or evil of any kind.
