Christmas star
Shine out quiet star.
Wordless guide of shepherds
and wise men
to the far-off
cherished site.
The story retold
by word of mouth,
recorded on scrolls,
translated by monks,
sung by carolers.
It unwinds humbly like skeins of new-dyed yarn.
Ring out quiet Truth,
the very same message,
not distanced by
earth-count years,
but oh, so near—
ever here.
In real substance grounded,
in Life’s compass centered,
with Love’s guidance, strong.
–Bonny Barry Sanders
