TO WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF TRUTH

This Week's Christian Science Bible Lesson, titled "Truth," seeks to provide meaning and direction to the search for the truth, which Jesus said would make us free (see John 8:32). It begins with a prayer of David in the Golden Text: "Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth" (Ps. 86:11). And the Responsive Reading joyfully concludes by quoting from another reassuring psalm: "The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him . . . in truth" (145:18).

In Science and Health Mary Baker Eddy refers to Truth as a name for Deity, saying, "God is what the Scriptures declare Him to be,—Life, Truth, Love" (p. 330, citation 1). And the example set by Jesus proves that to know God brings the freedom he promised is possible for each one of us.

As Wayshower, Jesus taught by parable and question. But it was his healing works that provided the most compelling testament to the power of Truth. And he emphasized that this healing power wasn't specific to him; he also gave his followers "power . . . to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease" (Matt. 10:1, cit. 3). This eternal power is available today for everyone to use in his name.
