FEAR ELIMINATED, VISION RESTORED

All weekend I'd been conscious of a piece of grit in one of my eyes. I tried to wash it out several times—with no success. Adding to my discomfort, my eye was sore and inflamed.

Then, standing in the checkout line at the supermarket the following Monday morning, I reached up and extracted a piece of something foreign from my eye. It was a great relief to have it out. However, walking back to my apartment, loaded down with grocery bags, I realized I wasn't seeing clearly.

Once home, I unloaded the groceries and picked up a copy of the morning newspaper. I could barely make out the print. I'd planned to spend the day working at my computer, but now I began to pace up and down in my living room.
