ACUTE ABDOMINAL PAIN HEALED

About five years ago, I began to experience sharp pain in my lower abdomen. This would last for several hours and was sometimes so intense that I couldn't be still. I would be pacing while, in the effort to pray, I would declare aloud truths about my freedom as a child of God.

Because of my study of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, I knew how to deal with this pain through Christian Science. I understood from experience that what may seem to be a physical ailment is in fact a conclusion, or false concept, of the "carnal mind." In the Bible St. Paul talks about the carnal mind as being "enmity against God" (Rom. 8:7), and then counsels to "let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5).

With similar terminology, Mary Baker Eddy used the term mortal mind to describe a false sense of intelligence as matter-based, rather than being based in God, who is divine Mind, the sole, infinite intelligence of the universe—the intelligence that Jesus manifested. Thus, mortal mind's conclusion that I had pain was not a real conclusion at all, but a suggestion of this false sense of intelligence. I prayed to see that pain was not a part of who I was as the reflection of Mind—to grasp that I was actually free right when the pain seemed present.
