A REFRESHING GIFT

My mom found Christian Science five or six years ago, and then I started going to a Christian Science Sunday School.

As a kid, I thought of Christmas just as a day to celebrate and receive presents. But when I started going to Sunday School, I understood that Christmas is a celebration of life and of forgiveness. I think that the birth of the "Prince of Peace" represents unity and brotherly affection. And Christmas is the day when we feel and express all the divine qualities. So Christmas is really every day because we can express divine qualities at any moment. December 25 is just a special time to recognize this.

In Sunday School I learned that Christmas marked the birth of Jesus, not of the Christ, because the Christ has always existed and will always exist. The Christ will never stop and will never die. This quote from Science and Health helps explain: "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness" (p. 332). Christmas refreshes, and shows me that today is a gift from our Father-Mother God.
