HEALING AT THE HELM
One day this past winter, my wife and I were covering our boat with a tarp to keep the snow off the helm area and seats. I'd tied the tarp down, leaving enough nylon string for a second tie-down, but I needed to cut the string in half. Although the sun was beginning to set, I felt it was light enough for me to see what I was doing.
When the string didn't cut immediately, something clearly was wrong. I then realized that I'd been cutting the string with the dull side of my knife blade, while the sharp edge had cut deeply into my finger. I hadn't even felt it.
When the wound began to bleed excessively, I used some duct tape, which was handy, for a quick bandage so that I could finish the job. But the bleeding continued. I then told my wife what had happened, and she went inside the boat to get a bandage.
