HOW HAS CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CLASS INSTRUCTION PREPARED YOU TO BE A HEALER IN THE WORLD?

BY JOPLE VAN HONSCHOOTEN

In essence, class instruction gave me a better sense of the words Christian and Science. I learned that having only Christian inspiration or only Scientific application, doesn't advance your lot. The right balance of these is what heals. Knowing the truth about your relationship with God without applying it doesn't help. Doing things without understanding the Science behind that relationship is also of little avail. Class instruction helps bring out the sense of balance.

I have to admit that class instruction didn't convert me from a Philistine into a saint overnight. This class, of course, isn't the ticket to automatic promotion to a higher level of understanding. You still have to sing what Mary Baker Eddy called the "song" of Christian Science, "'Work—work—work—watch and pray'" (Message to The Mother Church for 1900, p. 2).
