FREE FROM FACIAL PARALYSIS

I'd had a strenuous and demanding year. Some extensive renovations in my apartment had created a lot of inconvenience and disorder. Added to that were four months of noise from construction work on the balconies throughout my highrise, which involved crews with air hammers working from early morning till dinnertime six days a week. Cement dust permeated just about everything.

Many of the residents left to stay with friends or relatives during the construction. That wasn't an option for me. I was writing a talk that was scheduled to be given in a few months. Through prayer, acknowledging God as the only power and asserting that that power is always beneficial and present, I was able to accomplish all that needed to be done.

However, a week after the balcony work was over and my talk completed, one morning I found that one side of my face was paralyzed. As I looked into the mirror where I'd been about to apply makeup, it struck me that this was a ridiculous distortion of my true spiritual being. I just couldn't accept this abnormal image as real, because I know God to be the Creator and maintainer of the entire universe. Man and woman are made in God's image, as the Bible states in the first chapter of Genesis. All that He made, He called "very good." God couldn't be less than perfect—nor could His image. I had complete conviction that prayer in Christian Science could and would heal this condition.
