Living with health—a promise for today

"O my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me." That's a glorious message in any age—and one people most dearly yearn to see fulfilled. Resting on Biblical promises such as this verse from the book of Psalms, Christian Science proves that health is the natural, normal way of life for all of God's children.

But all too often today, news and conversation are overloaded with messages of disease and danger on the one hand, and false hope—or no hope at all—on the other. One could feel, at the least, overwhelmed. The Sentinel's motto, "What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch," points to an important goal of this magazine—alertness to the prayerful solutions Jesus offered to people's most pressing concerns. Experiencing health-filled days, free of fear, is certainly one of them. Our issue this week seeks to address that concern, encouraging an expectation of consistent good health firmly planted on a foundation of spiritual understanding.

In our lead article, "Don't learn to live with it," Nathan Talbot observes that "Mary Baker Eddy wrote about the importance of refusing to live with adversity—with anything that a God of love wouldn't send." And her discovery of Christian Science revealed that God is Love. Think of the assurance that brings! With God's love, anyone can refuse to accept whatever is harmful or debilitating, disease included. Then in the discussion that follows, Ted Savchenko, a former neurologist who is now a spiritual healer, tells how Christian Science has taught him that "there is no obligation to experience disease." He enthusiastically affirms, "You can be completely free from it!"
