THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

LIGHT ALONG THE ROAD

Early one morning while driving along a country road near my house, I was struck by the light shining through the mist, filtered by the branches of trees. Light changes so quickly and glimpses of beauty are sometimes so fleeting, that I stepped on the brakes and backed up to take this picture.

I loved the way the light bathed the foliage, as if blessing it. I immediately thought of the two disciples who were walking on the road to Emmaus when Jesus joined them and talked with them, though they didn't recognize him. The light of inspiration and love must have flooded the disciples' experience, because the Bible says their hearts "burned" within them (see Luke 24:13-35).

For a moment, I felt those disciples were there in the road. I could choose to see this radiance, or pass it by. But I was inspired and blessed, and my heart warmed as I took the picture and looked forward to sharing it with others.
