'THE HEART OF CHRISTIANITY'

Returning home late one evening a few weeks ago, I was dismayed to feel a number of symptoms of a cold or flu. The January 1 issue of the Sentinel ["The Lord's Prayer"] offered a sentiment by Arthur Kulah in "Paths to forgiveness" from the editors: "A good person can act bad, but if you forgive him, his God-nature can resurface." Then Abe McLaughlin's comment on this was quoted: "That surely is the heart of Christianity."

Deeply stirred, and longing to find myself in the heart of Christianity, I was suddenly healed. It has been thrilling to see the phenomenal development of your publications. Sincere thanks for all the uplifting graphic design, color, and text.

KEEP THEM COMING!

I appreciate Channing Walker's inspiring article, "A good idea, a cleaner engine," in the January 8 issue ["Fearless progress"]. I hope he will continue to provide us with articles like this. I especially like this statement: "Many of the solutions are not waiting to be invented; they're waiting to be noticed and then employed."

A GOD-PREPARED JOB

Thank you for the article "Out of prison and working for God" by Marcia Rosen-Kemp Rosen-Kemp in the Sentinel of February 5 ["God has work for you"]. This article responds so clearly and gives hope to those who are incarcerated. It will be a joy to share this article when visiting inmates who have concerns about finding quality employment because of their past.

We can know God is viewing a spiritual résumé, not a matter-based one. This will give them hope and guide them in their prayers, leading them to the place God has already prepared for them.

A VISIT WITH FRIENDS

We just received the Sentinel of February 5. As I opened it to the table of contents, I noticed the familiar-looking face of a boy (almost a young man now!), Niklas Peschke. Niklas's experience is a terrific demonstration of what can happen when one relies on God with his or her deepest desires. His trust of God and love of his cat, Jessee, was demonstrable Science (see Science and Health, p. 171). Thanks to Niklas for sharing his wonderful healing.

And thanks for publishing Keith Wommack's "Fill us today: a simple prayer." It brought a sense of peace and hope to my day. I always enjoy his writings.

The entire issue felt like a visit with longtime friends.

UNIVERSAL LOVE

I read with greatest interest Kim Shippey's "New Views of Henri Nouwen" in the Sentinel of February 12 ["Faith-inspired lives"]. In a time when religious faith is often used as the "excuse" for violence among peoples, we are reminded of the universality of God's love.

In a single page of descriptive prose about the "stands of timeless wisdom and personal guidance" from Nouwen's writings, Mr. Shippey has distilled for us profound wisdom. I am most grateful to the Sentinel and to Mr. Shippey for sharing such insights.

PROGRESSIVE JOURNEY WITH LIFE

As one who has recently joined the ranks of widowhood, I so appreciated the way David Robertson expressed and shared his understanding of eternal Life in his February 12 Sentinel article "Visionary faith." Anyone who is dealing with the loss of a loved partner will be blessed to read this article of faith.
