'HEALING HANDS'

I want to thank The Christian Science Board of Directors for going to New Orleans and meeting with Christian Scientists. They shared healing ideas and viewed the damage to the city and other parts of the Gulf Coast area, to get an idea of what still needs to be done.

I'm especially grateful that the April 3 issue ["Courage to go forward"] focused on progress in the area after Hurricane Katrina. The courage of the articles' writers is an inspiration to me and others, as we consider how best to continue praying with the people of that whole region, as everyone moves forward under God's tender guidance.

I very much appreciated the editorial ["The power that reorders disordered lives"] stating that "[it's] the 'hand of God'—the Christ-power that heals and restores order ...." I've had the privilege of taking two trips to New Orleans with Principia College students to provide to Christian Scientists and others helping hands with repairing their houses and property, at three months and six months after Katrina. I've seen much progress in that time, but much is still left to be done.

Compared to the apparent needs, we were only able to help a little, and lend a humble hand of hope, comfort, and friendship. Yet the editorial is right on target when it shows that God, through the light of the Christ, is "revealing the divine order of things" right at the point where devastation appears to be. This gives me hope and renewed inspiration to continue helping, and is the only true basis from which to give support.

I know that God is guiding everyone involved to take the right steps for progress and restoration, and we can all support that with our own regular prayers.

MORE ARTICLES FOR KIDS

I want to thank you for all the clear and fresh ideas you are sharing in the publications of The Mother Church. They are light and easy to understand. They have helped me and mine so much. I feel I can share these publications with anyone. And I have. Keep on doing what you are doing.

The kid's articles are precious and so applicable. I would like to see more for that age group. I know the special kids' Sentinel comes out only twice a year. I have had the youngest class in Sunday School, and it would be great to see more for the younger kids.

'THE HOPE CITY'

Thank you very much for the April 17 issue focused on hope. Both "Why hope?" by Nate Talbot and "Hope—reaching up with both hands" by Margaret Rogers are precious to me in applying Christian Science at this moment of hope.

Currently, Mexico City is being called "The city of hope" (La Ciudad de la Esperanza). I really want to see this city at all times with spiritual vision, as God sees it.

JUST IN TIME

The April 24 issue ["What is spiritual warfare?"] had just the thoughts I needed and arrived just when I needed them. That happens with most of the issues, but this one was particularly helpful.

Ingrid Peschke's "Upfront" and Warren Bolon's "The warfare we do want to wage" reminded me that our "prayer cannot change the Science of being, but it tends to bring us into harmony with it" (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 2).

Thank you for the always timely and inspiring magazines.

'A BETTER BEING'

I think I hear a woof and a whinny, a meow and an oink, as all creatures benefit from Susan Clay's marvelous article "Good dog" (April 24). After reading it, I, too, feel a better being.
