A BUSINESS TRANSFORMED

I have found that Christian Science provides a practical, healing approach to every aspect of life. An experience I had some years ago illustrated this for me in what was considered a "hopeless" situation—a business that the accountants thought could not possibly continue to exist.

The financial state of the private school my wife and I operated had been marginal for some time, but, based on what appeared to be a more favorable outlook, the school's bankers had agreed to extend a new line of credit. However, within the space of little more than a month, this loan had been exhausted, and we had insufficient funds to pay even the weekly wages at the end of the week, let alone the much larger monthly salary bill two weeks away.

As soon as I realized the seriousness of the situation, I was gripped with fear. It seemed clear that the bank would not look kindly on a request for a further extension of credit. Concern for the school and the staff was exacerbated by worry about my own family's housing accommodation, as we lived in premises that were part of the school, and over which the bank held a lien.
