TENDER LESSONS
What happened to me almost 14 years ago was never medically diagnosed, so I don't know what it was called. But the symptoms were alarming. If I tried to lie down, I couldn't breathe, and I was so weak I could barely dress myself. All this had developed literally overnight; one day I was fine, the next I was terribly ill.
Having loved Christian Science all my life, I naturally turned to prayer to heal this problem, and I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. He listened patiently to my account of the situation, and said he would be happy to help. He also reminded me that not a single element of what I was seeing as big trouble was true about God's image—my real being.
How I longed to demonstrate this! I didn't have time to be weak and miserable. I was caring for my husband. Although I had a skilled caregiver to help me eight hours a day, five days a week, I covered the rest of the time myself, and the demands on me seemed daunting. Not being able to sleep nights didn't help.
