Keep the quiet
In my old 1988 Honda hatchback I have a high-end radio/CD player with speakers, which I inherited from my brother. When the spirit moves me, I'll pop in a favorite CD, close the windows, and turn up the volume. But a few months ago, I began to notice something that surprised me. I got into my car, and I just didn't feel like turning the radio on—or the CD player. The silence that washed over me as I sat in the driver's seat was comforting and welcome, and I drove without the background noise that often accompanies me in the car. Not once, but again and again.
