After I'd had my hair colored, I noticed a small lump at the base of my head. I dismissed it as a reaction to the hair color or maybe an ingrown hair.

A day later, however, it was much larger, so I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me for relief from what I thought was an ingrown hair. I'm accustomed to turning to God in prayer for help because I've found healing through prayer in many instances. The practitioner agreed to pray with me.

But within hours of my call, it became alarmingly apparent that this was not an ingrown hair. The lump had grown and was beginning to make my neck stiff. I asked the practitioner for more help. The next morning I rode to church with my husband on our motorcycle, and by the time we arrived back home, my helmet was very tight and uncomfortable.
