A CONTINUING SERIES ON HOW CHURCH IS ACTIVE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES
In my heart, I was always member
WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, my mother did housework for other people. Since I was constantly sick as a child, I often went with
W my mother to the houses she cleaned, spending the time lying on the couch while she worked. One of her customers was a Christian Scientist. One day this woman, Miss Overby, told my mother that I could be healed by Christian Science prayer. So my mother let me talk to Miss Overby the next time we went to her house.
The first thing Miss Overby said to me was, "Let's try to find you." I was amazed at that. In school, I had often cried because I had felt out of place and had been wondering who I was or what I was. Miss Overby talked to me about my spiritual self. Together we would read the Bible Lesson (from the Bible, and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy) and talk about its ideas. My health improved greatly, and I became happier at school.
